93.70% students pass Class 10 exams this year (Img: Internet)
New Delhi: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) Class 10 results 2026 recorded an overall pass percentage of 93.70%. This marks a slight improvement from last year’s 93.66%, indicating stable academic performance across the country.
CBSE officials noted that the consistent results reflect students’ growing adaptability to competency-based assessment patterns introduced in recent years.
A total of 24.72 lakh students appeared for the exams out of 24.83 lakh registered candidates, reflecting a participation rate of 99.53%. This is slightly higher than last year’s 99.45%.

In terms of absolute numbers, over 23.16 lakh students successfully cleared the exams in 2026, compared to 22.22 lakh in 2025. The increase highlights both higher participation and improved outcomes.
Girls once again outperformed boys in the results. The pass percentage among girls stood at 94.99%, marginally lower than last year’s 95%, while boys recorded 92.69%, slightly higher than 92.63% in 2025.
Meanwhile, the pass percentage among transgender candidates declined to 87.50% from 95% last year, reflecting a notable dip in this category.
Among CBSE regions, Trivandrum and Vijayawada emerged as top performers with a pass percentage of 99.79%. Chennai (99.58%) and Bengaluru (98.91%) followed closely.
In Delhi, the overall pass percentage stood at 97.38%, with Delhi West slightly ahead of Delhi East.
Among institutions, Kendriya Vidyalayas and Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas once again recorded the highest pass percentages, outperforming independent and government schools.
Nearly 2.22 lakh students (8.96%) scored above 90%, while around 55,000 students crossed the 95% mark.

The number of students placed in the compartment category rose slightly to 1.47 lakh, though the overall proportion remained nearly unchanged at around 5.95%.
CBSE reiterated that it will not release a merit list or rank students, continuing its policy introduced in 2020 to discourage unhealthy competition. However, merit certificates will be issued to the top 0.1% of performers.
The 2026 batch is among the first to be assessed under the two-board-exam system aligned with the National Education Policy. Students will have an opportunity to improve their scores in select subjects, with final results to be compiled after the second examination cycle.
