Jaisalmer: At the West Zone–I Regional Conference in Jaisalmer, the Hon’ble Chief Justice of India delivered a visionary keynote on how technology can strengthen the Rule of Law. The address underscored that digital transformation is no longer optional—it is central to constitutional governance.

Technology as a Constitutional Imperative

Technology today functions as a constitutional tool, enhancing equality before law, transparency, and access to justice. Digital platforms, data systems, and AI-assisted tools help courts overcome physical and procedural barriers, ensuring timely and principled outcomes.

“I am committed to ensuring that even the poorest citizen can access justice from the Supreme Court,” says CJI Surya Kant

Towards a Unified Judicial Policy

A key theme of the address was the need for a Unified Judicial Policy. While India’s judiciary reflects federal diversity, technology enables convergence—harmonising procedures, judgment formats, case prioritisation, and digital infrastructure so citizens experience justice as one integrated national system.

Predictability and Precedent: Pillars of Trust

Predictable outcomes anchored in precedent are the soul of the Rule of Law. Data analytics, case-flow management, and digital precedent databases promote consistency, reduce arbitrariness, and reinforce public confidence in judicial decision-making.

Prioritising Liberty and Urgency

Technology-driven listing and monitoring systems allow courts to prioritise matters involving life, liberty, livelihood, and irreversible harm. Urgency becomes a matter of system design, not discretion.

Clear Judgments, Accessible Justice

Uniform judgment formats, simplified language, and prominent operative directions ensure that justice is not only delivered but also understood. Technology bridges the gap between complex legal reasoning and citizen comprehension.

Innovation with a Human Face

The future of justice lies in blending modern tools with constitutional values. As the Chief Justice emphasised, the true measure of innovation is how simply a citizen understands their outcome—and trusts that justice has been done.
