New Delhi: Covid-19 has once again knocked in the country. After the increase in cases of infection in countries like China, Singapore, and Hong Kong, now new variants of coronavirus have raised concerns in India as well. According to the Dynamite News correspondent, many states of India are witnessing an increase in cases of infection as well as deaths.

According to health experts and officials, it is necessary to be cautious about four new variants in the country—JN.1, NB.1.8.1, LF.7, and XF.G. All these are sub-variants of Omicron, which spread rapidly, although till now their symptoms have been found to be minor.

Maharashtra has the highest number of cases

Maharashtra is reporting the highest number of cases of Covid-19. According to the state health department, 76 new cases were reported on Thursday. A total of 597 cases have been registered since January 1, 2025. Currently 425 patients are active, while 165 patients have recovered. So far 7 patients have died, out of which 6 already had other serious diseases.

27 cases have been reported in Mumbai, 21 in Pune, 12 in Thane Municipal Corporation, 8 in Kalyan, 4 in Navi Mumbai, 1 each in Kolhapur and Ahilyanagar, and 2 in Raigad district. In Mumbai alone, 379 patients have been found infected so far this year.

Infection also increased in Rajasthan

15 new cases were found in Jaipur, Jodhpur, and Udaipur in Rajasthan on Thursday. Jaipur reported the highest number of 9 cases, Jodhpur 2, and Udaipur 4. New variants XF.G and LF.7.9 have been confirmed in the samples sent to the National Institute of Virology (NIV) in Pune.

These new variants are being reported mainly in western and southern India. Apart from this, strains like JN.1 and NB.1.8.1 have also emerged, which are being monitored.

Cases of death in Karnataka and Chandigarh

A 70-year-old patient in Karnataka died due to complications related to COVID infection. The patient had diabetes, high blood pressure, and heart disease.

At the same time, a 40-year-old man died due to COVID infection in Government Medical College (GMCH), Sector 32, Chandigarh.

Active cases and vigilance in the country

There are a total of 1,252 active COVID cases in India at present, and at least 13 deaths have been recorded so far.

Do not ignore these symptoms.

In the current wave, symptoms like sore throat or heaviness, mild fever, diarrhea, stomachache, fatigue, and change in voice are being seen in infected patients.

The center's strictness, instructions to states

The Health Ministry and ICMR have instructed all states to increase the testing rate, ensure the availability of oxygen, beds, and medicines in hospitals, and advised wearing masks in public places. It has also been recommended to give booster doses to high-risk groups such as the elderly and people with pre-existing diseases.
