Delhi Braces for Sudden Temperature Spike After Rainy Relief
New Delhi: Residents of Delhi-NCR may experience one last day of pleasant weather before temperatures begin rising sharply across the region. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast cloud formation and thunderstorm activity in several parts of Delhi on May 7, offering temporary relief from the recent heat.
Over the past 24 hours, rainfall and hailstorm activity pushed temperatures nearly 5.7 degrees Celsius below normal. According to the IMD, maximum temperatures on Thursday are expected to remain between 33 and 35 degrees Celsius, while minimum temperatures may settle around 23 to 24 degrees Celsius.
The weather department has predicted cloudy skies and evening thunderstorms in multiple districts, including North Delhi, North-East Delhi, North-West Delhi, West Delhi, South Delhi, South-West Delhi, South-East Delhi, New Delhi and Shahdara. Nearby NCR cities such as Gurugram, Noida, Ghaziabad and Faridabad are also expected to witness similar weather conditions.
From May 8 onward, the weather pattern is expected to change significantly. The IMD has forecast mainly clear skies across Delhi-NCR until May 12, with very little possibility of rainfall during this period.
Temperatures are likely to climb rapidly and may touch 40 degrees Celsius on May 9 and 10. The IMD has warned that maximum temperatures could rise by 4 to 6 degrees Celsius over the next five days, increasing the chances of heatwave-like conditions in the national capital.
The weather department has advised children, senior citizens and people sensitive to heat to avoid direct sunlight during afternoon hours. Residents have also been urged to stay hydrated as dry and hot conditions are expected to dominate the region in the coming days.
