New Delhi: A 50-year-old woman was beaten to death with a hammer by her estranged husband in Neb Sarai area of South Delhi. The accused husband came to the house in the guise of a sadhu. The deceased woman Kiran Jha worked as a caretaker. Kiran was living separately from her husband for the last 10 years due to domestic violence. Giving information about this on Wednesday, the police said that the accused Pramod Jha alias Pappu (60) attacked his wife Kiran Jha inside their house in the early hours of Wednesday. Police have described it as a pre-planned attack.

DCP (South) Ankit Chauhan said that Kiran was found soaked in blood by her daughter-in-law at around 4 am. The DCP said that the accused was living separately from his wife for about a decade and had come to Delhi from his native village located in Munger district of Bihar only on August 1. It is being told that he had disguised himself as a sadhu to mislead his family and enter the house.

The officer said that the deceased Kiran Jha lived in Neb Sarai with her son Durgesh, daughter-in-law Kamal Jha and granddaughter. Durgesh works in a microfinance company in Darbhanga, Bihar.

The DCP said that initial investigation revealed that the accused had no source of income and had also sold his ancestral property. He was pressuring his wife to return to Bihar and earn money, which she refused.

Kiran's daughter Roma said that the accused physically abused her mother, due to which Kiran had to leave him and start a new life in Delhi. Roma told the police that the family had gone to Bihar for a funeral about two months ago, where Pramod pretended to reform and give up violence.

"Police teams have been sent to railway stations and bus stands to trace his movements. We are working on several leads to arrest the accused," the DCP said.
