New Delhi: The Chief Election Commission of India (ECI) has dismissed allegations of voter deletions made by the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi during his recently concluded press conference.
EC Gyanesh Kumar said that voter deletion allegations are ‘incorrect and baseless,’ while emphasizing that no votes can be deleted online by the public.
Clarification by EC on Rahul Gandhi’s Allegations
* Claims are incorrect & baseless.
* No voter deletion can be done online by the public.
* Due process ensures hearing before deletion.
* In 2023, failed deletion attempts in Aland led to FIR filed by ECI itself.
* Aland results: 2018 – BJP’s Subhadh Guttedar, 2023 – INC’s BR Patil.
Congress leader and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, has once again raised the issue of alleged vote theft. He stated that Aland, a constituency in Karnataka, attempted to delete 6,018 votes.
Rahul Gandhi said, "We don't know how many votes were deleted in Aland in the 2023 elections. The number is much higher than 6,018, but someone was caught deleting those 6,018 votes, and it was a coincidence."
Rahul Gandhi also alleged that the Chief Election Commissioner is protecting those involved in vote theft. Furthermore, the Congress leader alleged that numerous names were added to the voter list in Maharashtra. Following these allegations, the Election Commission has now responded.
What did the Election Commission say in its response?
The Election Commission has dismissed Rahul Gandhi's allegations as baseless. The Commission stated that Rahul's allegations are baseless and false. Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar said, "Votes can never be deleted online." The Election Commission itself lodged an FIR in Aland over the attempt to cut votes."
Last month, Gandhi claimed that over one lakh votes were “stolen” through manipulation in the Mahadevapura assembly segment in Karnataka, and asserted that “vote chori” is an “atom bomb on our democracy.”
