Two Children Killed After Powerful Dust Storm (Image Internet)
Jaipur: A powerful dust storm accompanied by rain claimed the lives of 2 children and left several others injured in Rajasthan’s Barmer district, officials said on Tuesday. The severe weather struck rural parts of the district late Monday night, causing widespread damage to homes, electricity infrastructure and public property.
The storm brought strong winds and rainfall that uprooted trees, damaged tin sheds and knocked down electricity poles across several villages. Residents faced disruptions in power supply as emergency teams assessed the extent of the damage.
Authorities said the worst-affected areas were located in rural pockets where many homes and temporary structures were unable to withstand the force of the storm.
One of the fatalities was reported from Sabri Nagar village under the Bola gram panchayat. According to police, eight-year-old Khagendra was trapped when the wall of a tin-shed room collapsed during the storm.
Family members and local residents rushed to rescue the child from the debris and took him to the district hospital. However, doctors declared him dead on arrival.
In a separate tragedy in the same village, four-year-old Khumanaram lost his life after a wall of a kutcha house gave way due to the intense winds and rain.
Officials said the child suffered fatal injuries when the structure collapsed. The incident has left the local community in shock as families mourn the loss of the two young victims.
Local authorities are conducting surveys to assess the damage caused by the storm. Several people reportedly sustained injuries, while numerous houses and utility structures were affected.
Officials have urged residents to remain cautious as weather conditions continue to be monitored. Relief and restoration work, including repairs to damaged power lines, is underway in affected areas.
