After New Delhi, Minister Anand will also travel to Mumbai, where she will meet with Indian and Canadian companies. Her aim is to promote investment, employment, and economic opportunities between the two countries.
Anita Anand visits India to rebuild old ties between India and Canada
This visit comes at a time when relations between the two countries are gradually improving. In September, Canadian National Security Advisor Nathalie Drouin visited India and held extensive talks with Indian NSA Ajit Doval.
Just days later, Canada designated the Lawrence Bishnoi gang as a terrorist organization, a positive signal from India's perspective.
In 2023, then-Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau accused India of involvement in the murder of Khalistani leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a claim India described as "absurd." Diplomatic relations between the two countries had soured significantly.
However, relations between the two countries have begun to return to normal since Mark Carney became Prime Minister and won the April 2025 election.

Anita Anand's visit to India is considered a major step towards reviving India-Canada relations. This visit is expected to provide a new impetus to bilateral trade, security cooperation, and people-to-people ties.
