New Delhi: Significant initiatives have been taken to re-strengthen relations between India and Canada. India's National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval visited Canada and held high-level meetings in Ottawa. The visit aimed to promote security and law enforcement cooperation between the two countries.
India-Canada relations were quite strained during the tenure of former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. Now, under the new government of Prime Minister Mark Carney, efforts are underway to improve relations between the two countries. In this regard, Ajit Doval met with Natalie G. Drouin, Deputy Secretary to the Canadian Prime Minister and National Security and Intelligence Advisor.

Doval's visit is considered part of regular bilateral security dialogue. The two countries reviewed ongoing initiatives to protect their citizens and national security and agreed on a shared action plan for future cooperation.
The meeting decided to appoint security and law enforcement liaison officers in both countries. It aims to improve communication channels between the two countries and share information on drug trafficking, particularly fentanyl, and the activities of transnational organized crime networks.
The two sides also agreed on cooperation in the field of cybersecurity. This includes policy coordination and the exchange of information related to cyber threats. It was also decided to promote joint efforts related to fraud and immigration enforcement, while respecting each country's domestic laws and international commitments.

During this two-day visit, Ajit Doval also met with the Canadian Minister of Public Safety. These meetings demonstrated that, despite past tensions, both countries are interested in further strengthening practical security ties.
