India to Get Javelins & Excalibur Shells!
New Delhi: The United States has approved a significant $93 million defense deal with India. It includes 100 FGM-148 Javelin anti-tank missiles, 25 command launch units, and 216 M982A1 Excalibur precision-guided artillery rounds. This information was provided in a notification sent to Congress by the U.S. Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA).
The total cost of the deal is estimated at $93 million, with approximately $45.7 million for the Javelin system and approximately $47.1 million for the Excalibur rounds.
The Javelin portion includes 100 missiles, one "fly-to-buy" round (for testing), and 25 lightweight command launch units (CLUs). Training, spare parts, technical assistance, balance-of-life (lifecycle) support, system testing, and safety inspections will also be provided.
The Excalibur deal includes 216 GPS-guided shells, integration kits for the Portable Electronic Fire Control System (PEFCS), propellant charges, primers, technical data, repairs, and logistical support.

DSCA has stated that this deal will further strengthen the India-US strategic partnership.
It will enhance India's security capabilities, enabling it to better address current and future threats and strengthen its border defense capabilities.
The US has also claimed that this transaction will not disrupt the regional military balance.
The US has stated that no offset arrangement is currently attached to this deal; if any will be in the future, it will be determined after negotiations between India and the manufacturing companies.
Top-attack mode: The Javelin missile attacks from above, where tank armor is weaker, ensuring more effective destruction.
Soft-Launch System: This missile can be safely fired from bunkers, buildings, or enclosed spaces, as it has low recoil and a controlled launch.
High Accuracy: It is highly accurate and can effectively attack moving armored units, as has been demonstrated in other battlefields.
Excalibur shells are GPS-guided, greatly increasing the accuracy of artillery strikes and reducing collateral damage.
India has already used some GPS-guided shells, and this deal will further improve its first-strike capability.

The US DSCA has submitted the proposed sale to Congress, and the review process is now underway.
If Congress issues no objections, the deal will proceed and weapons supplies to India can begin.
Analysts have viewed this move as a strong signal toward enhancing India's modern capabilities and responding to its strategic instability.
This $93 million defense deal is not just an arms sale—it symbolizes the growing strategic closeness between India and the United States. The Javelin missiles will further strengthen India's anti-tank capabilities, while the Excalibur shells will enhance its artillery accuracy. Furthermore, this deal is part of the US policy of maintaining regional security balance. Such deals between the two countries could pave the way for even greater cooperation in the future.
