Srinagar: The Indian government has taken a big step against Pakistan and decided to suspend the Indus Water Treaty, reports Dynamite News correspondent.

The importance of Wular Lake

Wular Lake is the largest freshwater lake in South Asia, with an area of about 199 square kilometers. It extends from Sopore to Bandipura. The water of the Jhelum River goes to Pakistan through this lake, as well as a part of the Indus River is also diverted from here. The Indian government believes that by building a barrage here, the water supply to Pakistan can be controlled.

What is India's strategy?

The Indian government had planned to build a dam in this area since 1980, but it could not be completed due to technical and security challenges. The work started again in 2004 and 2012 but stopped due to terrorist attacks and protests. Now the central government has again given the green signal to this project.

By building this barrage, India will have double benefits: stopping water in case of drought - due to which Pakistan will face water crisis, and releasing water during floods can lead to flood situations in Pakistan.

In this way, India can put pressure on Pakistan through a "water war".

Impact on Pakistan

Pakistan's economy is dependent on agriculture, and the Indus River system is its lifeline. If India controls the water supply, Pakistan may face a serious water crisis. This will also affect agriculture, drinking water supply, and power generation there.

Support of Uttarakhand Government

The Chief Minister of Uttarakhand has also supported this decision. He said that "a person should be treated as he is. Evildoers should be treated as evildoers." This statement indicates that India is now in a mood to take strict action against Pakistan's terrorist activities.

This move of the Indian government is part of a well-planned strategy aimed at putting pressure on Pakistan. If this plan succeeds, Pakistan may face serious economic and social crises.
