Bomb Scare on Kuwait–Hyderabad IndiGo Flight
New Delhi: On Tuesday, an Indigo Airlines flight from Kuwait to Hyderabad was in a state of panic after receiving a bomb threat. According to reports, the threat was sent to the official email address of Hyderabad Airport, claiming that a "human bomb" was on board. Immediately after receiving the message, airport officials and security agencies, considering the gravity of the situation, decided to divert the flight to Mumbai.
This Indigo flight made a safe landing at Mumbai Airport on Tuesday morning. Upon landing, the plane was taken directly to the isolation bay, where security teams were already deployed. All passengers were disembarked peacefully and underwent preliminary screening. Passengers reported that the crew maintained calm throughout and did not allow any panic to spread.
As soon as the plane arrived at the isolation bay, CISF, Mumbai Police, Bomb Disposal Squad (BDDS), and airport security teams launched a joint search operation. Every part of the aircraft—cabin, cargo, luggage, and seats—is being thoroughly checked.
Although the discovery of a bomb or any suspicious object has not been confirmed yet, officials say that, as per protocol, no conclusions can be reached until all investigations are completed.
The threatening email sent to Hyderabad Airport is also being investigated. The cyber cell and intelligence agencies have begun technical analysis to identify the source of the email. The initial investigation has yielded several important inputs, which security agencies are scrutinizing.
Officials say such threats have increased recently, many of which have proven to be mere rumors, but they cannot be ignored.
It is noteworthy that security agencies across the country are already on high alert following the blast in Delhi. Despite this, several bomb threats have been received in the past two weeks.
— A bomb hoax recently spread on a flight from Toronto to Delhi.
— A flight from Mumbai to Varanasi was also grounded after receiving a bomb threat.
— Furthermore, threats to blow up Delhi, Goa, and Chennai airports have been reported.
IndiGo's statement stated that the crew prioritized passenger safety by following all protocols. The airline thanked Mumbai Airport and security agencies for their prompt action. Passengers also expressed relief that the plane landed safely and that no negligence was committed in handling the situation.
A thorough investigation of the plane is currently underway. Security agencies are also investigating the incident as a possible "hoax threat," but a policy of no laxity has been adopted. Following the incident, security has been further tightened at all airports to ensure immediate control of such incidents.
