Six Dead in Indore House Fire Triggered by Electric Car Charging
Indore: A massive fire shook the entire area of Indore, Madhya Pradesh, early Wednesday morning. A short circuit ignited in an electric car parked near Bengali Square while it was charging. The fire quickly spread and engulfed the house. Six people were burned to death, while three others were seriously injured.
According to preliminary information, an electric car was charging outside the Pugalia family's home late last night. Around 4 a.m., a short circuit occurred at the charging point, igniting the car. The fire spread rapidly inside the house and engulfed the gas cylinders stored there.
Following the fire, gas cylinders stored in the house exploded one after another. It is reported that four cylinders exploded, causing panic in the area. The explosion was so powerful that a portion of the house collapsed, leaving those sleeping inside without a chance to escape.
A family function was underway at the home at the time of the incident, and several relatives were present. This contributed to the high casualty rate. Six people have been confirmed dead so far, while the injured are undergoing treatment at the hospital.
According to Police Commissioner Santosh Kumar Singh, a fire was reported at 4 a.m. in the Tilak Nagar police station area. The fire brigade arrived at the scene and attempted to extinguish the fire and rescued three people safely. Investigation revealed that the house had electronic locks, which could not be opened due to the power outage. This posed significant difficulties for the residents, and the rescue had to be carried out by breaking down the doors.
Vijay Sethia (65), Chhotu Sethia (22), Suman (60), Manoj (65), Simran (30), and Rashi Sethia (12) died in the accident.
Police and administration are currently investigating the accident. Initial investigations suggest a short circuit and cylinder explosion as the cause. This incident raises serious questions about the charging safety of electric vehicles and home safety measures.
