New Delhi: Strait of Hormuz — one of the world’s most important oil shipping routes — has been under global watch due to rising tensions in the Middle East. Despite the concerns, Iran has reportedly allowed two LPG tankers heading to India to safely pass through the strait, reports Dynamite News correspondent.
A crude oil tanker carrying Saudi Arabian oil is also expected to reach India on Saturday. The ship passed through the Strait of Hormuz earlier in March, according to shipping data from Lloyd’s List Intelligence cited by Reuters. This movement may reduce fears of oil supply disruption in India.
Iran’s ambassador to India, Mohammad Fathali, confirmed that Indian ships will have safe access through the Strait. He said the reason is simple: Iran considers India a friendly country and shares regional interests with it.
Another Iranian representative in India, Abdul Majid Hakeem Ilahi, said India could benefit from oil, gas, and other resources in the future.
Ilahi also urged world leaders to pressure the Donald Trump and Israel to stop the war in the region, claiming the conflict is harming civilians.
The Strait of Hormuz handles a huge share of the world’s oil and gas shipments. If shipping there stops, countries like India that import large amounts of energy could face shortages and higher prices. Iran allowing Indian ships through the route helps calm supply fears for now.
