Two army personnel martyred, two injured in Kulgam encounter
At the same time, firing continued for the ninth day on Saturday in Operation Akhal, ongoing in Kulgam district of South Kashmir - one of the longest anti-terrorism operations in Jammu and Kashmir. But meanwhile, two army personnel were martyred and two others were injured in an overnight encounter with terrorists during the operation in the district. The Chinar Corps, which commands the army in the Kashmir Valley, confirmed the sacrifice of two army soldiers. The Chinar Corps paid tribute to the soldiers who sacrificed their lives in the encounter in a post on X and said that the operation is still going on. In a post on X, the Chinar Corps said, Chinar Corps honors the supreme sacrifice of brave Lance Naik Preetpal Singh and Sepoy Harminder Singh while performing duty for the nation. Their courage and dedication will always inspire us. The army said that it stands in solidarity with the bereaved families. He further said that the operation against terrorists in the area is going on. Officials said that two other soldiers have been injured in the firing that took place overnight.
Police sources said that firing and rocket launchers were fired by security forces in the Akhal forest area. According to sources, the army personnel are being targeted by terrorists using snipers, due to which they have suffered this loss, although there is no official confirmation about this. Dense forest and steep climbs are creating challenges for the security forces to move forward. Officials said that senior police and army officials, including Jammu and Kashmir Police Chief Nalin Prabhat, Army Northern Commander Lieutenant General Prateek Sharma and Jammu and Kashmir Police Kashmir Zone IGP VK Birdi, are keeping a close watch on the operation round the clock.
He said that the security forces are using drones, quad copters, helicopters and other modern equipment to track the terrorists in the difficult terrain of the forest area. Apart from this, sniffer dogs are also being used to track the terrorists in the operation.
