J&K: More than 378 schools closed, 4000 students affected; Govt schools to open from 15 Sep

Srinagar: More than 378 government schools in Jammu division will remain closed for now. About 4,000 children studying in these schools will be sent to nearby community halls, panchayat houses or other safe schools. This is because the buildings have suffered heavy damage due to heavy rains and floods on August 26.

After completing the security audit, most private schools have been opened from September 10, but most government schools could not be opened. Now preparations are on to call children to government schools from September 15. Studies will start in 25 percent of the schools from Monday.

This has been revealed after the report sent to the Chief Education Officer (CEO) through the headmasters and the report of the social audit team. The survey is still going on in the division. The report that has come so far states that more than 378 buildings are on the verge of collapse.

There may be loss if children are called in these schools. In such a situation, work will be done on the process of building new schools in place of these schools. For now, studies will remain closed in these schools. Directorate of Education has also issued an order in this regard. It has been asked to keep the schools closed and conduct studies in Panchayat Ghar, nearby school or community building.

Rooms and lintels damaged in 2,000 schools
Buildings in 2,000 schools have been damaged in the division. The walls of the rooms have collapsed due to debris and in some places the lintel has been damaged. Studies will be conducted in the safe buildings remaining in these schools. Similarly, work is going on to inspect other schools.

Partial repairs needed in 2,500 schools
After the social audit, the engineers of the Public Works Department have asked to start classes after partial repairs in 2,500 schools. Studies can be started in these schools after repairs. Leakage and damage to walls have occurred due to rain.

Directorate of Education claims, 30 percent school buildings damaged

According to the Directorate of Education, 30 percent schools have been damaged. Out of these, 700 schools are in a very damaged condition. In other schools, there will be no studies in damaged rooms. There is difficulty in conducting survey in some schools across the division.

The connecting roads are broken here. Due to this, the teams have not been able to reach. There are about 14,000 schools in the division. Survey of more than seven thousand schools has been done. Work is going on in others. After the report comes, the correct information about the damage in the schools will be available.

Earlier the report of the damage was sent to the Directorate of Education through the CEO. After this, the decision to keep the schools closed was taken. Now the engineers of the Public Works Department are doing social audit. The situation will be clear after the report of the engineers comes. The status of the schools in which audit has been done has been made clear.

More than 40 percent of schools in the hilly areas of Kishtwar, Rajori, Poonch, Ramban and Doda districts have suffered damage. Debris has fallen in the schools. Rainwater has accumulated in some schools. Cleaning work is going on in these schools. These schools are to be opened after cleaning.

30 percent of schools in Jammu division have suffered damage. Buildings of hundreds of schools have been damaged. Students of these schools will be taught in Panchayat Ghar or community buildings. Audit is going on.
