Kolkata: Continuous heavy rains have severely disrupted life in Kolkata, the capital of West Bengal. Seven people have died so far due to electrocution and other accidents. Heavy waterlogging has occurred in many parts of the city, completely disrupting traffic, metro, and train services.
The rains were most severe in South and East Kolkata. According to the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC), some areas recorded extremely heavy rainfall:
Further, waterlogging is causing severe inconvenience to residents in areas like Beniapukur, Kalikapur, Netaji Nagar, Gariahat, and Iqbalpur.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has reported that a low-pressure area has formed over the northeast Bay of Bengal and is now moving northwestward. Due to this, heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in several districts of South Bengal.
