During the proceedings, Justice Pamidighantam Sri Narasimha questioned the Centre about the reasons behind the paper leak despite the existence of monitoring mechanisms and high-level committees.
The court observed that such incidents deeply affect students who spend years preparing for competitive examinations. Justice Narasimha remarked that the emotional and academic investment made by students should not be undermined by failures in the system.
The bench also referred to the functioning of the Union Public Service Commission as an example of conducting examinations with stronger safeguards and institutional credibility.
The Supreme Court directed the Centre to submit a detailed affidavit explaining how the investigation into the leak is being conducted and what systems are being put in place to prevent similar incidents in the future.
The matter has now been scheduled for further hearing in the second week of July. The court noted that if such a breach occurred despite recommendations made by expert committees, it either reflected shortcomings in the recommendations themselves or weak implementation of security protocols.
