New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed a public meeting in Kolkata on August 22, 2025, and accused the West Bengal government of misusing the development funds sent by the central government.

He said that in the last 11 years, the central government has given unprecedented financial assistance for the development of the state. For example, the amount given for the construction of national highways is three times more than the UPA government's decade-long allocation.

Similarly, the railway budget has also been tripled compared to earlier. However, PM Modi stressed that the state government is not using these resources properly. According to him, most of the money sent from the Center is spent on benefiting TMC workers and corruption, due to which West Bengal has lagged behind other states in poor welfare schemes.

In this program held in Kolkata on the festive occasion of Durga Puja, PM Modi also discussed the development of the metropolis and inaugurated important projects like the metro and highway.
He said that the dream of India's development is incomplete without the progress of Bengal, and for this it is necessary to have a BJP government in the state. The Prime Minister also accused the TMC government of being anti-development and said that it has also distanced itself from schemes like the Centre's Smart City.
Citing the example of congested areas like Dum Dum, he accused the TMC of deliberately stopping development work.
Finally, he stressed that now the time has come for change in the state, and in the coming times, the TMC will be replaced by a BJP government, which is committed to the all-round development of Bengal.
