New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Friday agreed to hear a batch of petitions challenging the Election Commission's decision to conduct a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists in Kerala, Uttar Pradesh, and other states.
A bench comprising Justices Surya Kant, SVN Bhatti, and Joymalya Bagchi sought the Election Commission's response to new petitions filed by politicians challenging the SIR process in various states.

Senior advocate Kapil Sibal, appearing for a petitioner challenging the SIR in Kerala, said that local body elections are also scheduled in the state and, therefore, the matter needs to be considered expeditiously.
Kerala petition to be heard on November 26
The bench directed that the petitions challenging the SIR in Kerala be listed on November 26, and the remaining petitions challenging the electoral roll revision exercise in other states will be heard in the first or second week of December.
The Supreme Court is already hearing petitions challenging the validity of the Election Commission's decision to conduct SIR across India.
On November 11, the Supreme Court had sought separate responses from the poll panel on petitions filed by leaders of the DMK, CPI(M), West Bengal Congress, and Trinamool Congress, challenging the SIR of voter lists in Tamil Nadu and West Bengal.
The Indian rupee broke its record on Friday, recording its biggest single-day decline in three months. Amid negative cues from domestic and global stock markets and a strengthening dollar, the rupee slipped below the 89-rupee mark for the first time. The rupee fell sharply by 78 paise to 89.46 in the interbank foreign exchange market.
