

After 78 years of independence, Mizoram is all set to be connected to the rail network.
Train service is going to start between Kolkata-Aizawl
Kolkata: People will now be able to travel directly by train to the remote state of Mizoram located in the Northeast. For the first time on 13 September, a direct train service is going to start between Mizoram's capital Aizawl and Kolkata.
After 78 years of independence, Mizoram is all set to be connected to the rail network.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the 51.38 km long newly built Bairabi-Sairang railway line and two new trains connecting Aizawl on 13 September.
This line starts from Bairabi located near the Assam-Mizoram border and reaches the small town of Sairang, located just 18 km from the capital Aizawl.
Dr. Uday Shankar Jha, Principal Chief Commercial Manager (PCCM) of Eastern Railway in Kolkata, said that PM Modi will also inaugurate an express train from Sairang in Aizawl to Kolkata station and Mizoram's first Rajdhani Express train from Sairang to Anand Vihar in New Delhi on that day.
He said that with the launch of 13125 Kolkata- Sairang Express, people of Kolkata will be able to easily reach the beautiful valleys of Mizoram.
This train will leave from Kolkata station three days a week
Dr. Jha said that this train will leave from Kolkata station three days a week on Saturday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
In return, 13226 Sairang-Kolkata Express will leave from Sairang on Monday, Thursday and Friday. All the coaches of this 22 coach train will be LHV.
Between Kolkata and Sairang stations, this train will have halts at Naihati, Krishnanagar City, Baharampur Court, Murshidabad, Azimang, Jangipur Road, New Farakka, Malda Town, Kishanganj, New Jalpaiguri, New Cooch Behar, Tufanganj, Golakganj, Gauripur, Bisalpur, Abhaypuri, Goalpara Town, Kamakhya, Guwahati, Hojai, New Haflam, Badarpur, Hailakandi and Bairabi.
This rail project is a big achievement for Indian Railways
Jha said that this rail project was not only challenging from the geographical point of view, but is also an important achievement for Indian Railways from the point of view of engineering and construction.
This 51.38 km long new railway line passes through the Lushai (Mizo) mountains, passing through dense bamboo forests, deep valleys and steep hills.
This railway line with 45 tunnels and 55 main bridges has the country's second tallest pier bridge, which is 114 meters high, i.e. higher than the Qutub Minar.
The completion of the Bairabi-Sairang rail project will establish rail connectivity with the capitals of four states of Northeast India.
Till now, the three capitals of the Northeast region, Guwahati (Assam), Itanagar (Arunachal Pradesh) and Agartala (Tripura) were directly connected to the rail network.
