UP: 13 died in Bundelkhand and Purvanchal due to heavy rains; No relief expected yet

Three people died in Chitrakoot, two in Banda, one each in Kanpur Dehat, Unnao and Hamirpur due to lightning and rain. Chitrakoot recorded the highest rainfall of 100 mm. There were five deaths due to lightning in Purvanchal.

Lucknow: Bundelkhand and other areas of the state received good rains on Saturday. This also caused a drop of one to two degrees in temperature. According to the Meteorological Department, the rainy season will continue in the state for a week. During this time, there will be light rain at some places, moderate and heavy rain at others.

Senior scientist of the Regional Meteorological Center, Mohammad Danish, said that the highest rainfall was recorded in the Bundelkhand region on Saturday. Chitrakoot recorded the highest rainfall of 216 mm till Saturday evening. At the same time, 126 mm and Banda recorded 115 mm of rain.

Kanpur and nearby districts of Purvanchal received heavy rains since Friday night. Rainwater entered homes at many places. Three people died in Chitrakoot, two in Banda, one each in Kanpur Dehat, Unnao and Hamirpur due to lightning and rain. Chitrakoot recorded the highest rainfall of 100 mm. There were five deaths due to lightning in Purvanchal.

In Banda, a kutcha house collapsed due to lightning in Majra Kallu Purva of Uttarwan Shahpur of Badausa police station area on Saturday morning. Mother and two sons got buried under the debris. One son was declared dead in Rani Durgavati Medical College, the other two are undergoing treatment. One farmer died due to lightning in Dadon village of Kamasin police station area while two others got burnt. 46 mm of rain was recorded in Banda in 24 hours.

Two died due to the collapse of the roof of a kutcha house in Bhartiku of Chitrakoot and the wall of a house in the hilly area. A farmer died due to being swept away in a drain in Manikpur area. Heavy rain occurred in Mahoba from 12 pm on Friday night to Saturday afternoon. Drains, canals and culverts overflowed. 20 villages lost contact with the district headquarters. People had to take an extra detour of 20 to 30 km. Rainwater filled schools and houses. School children also faced problems due to this.

110 mm rainfall was recorded till late evening. Lightning struck five labourers who were transplanting paddy in Shivni village of Kurara area of Hamirpur. One of them died, while four were burnt. Rivers and streams overflowed. Many villages became islands. 68 mm rainfall was recorded here in 24 hours. A youth who was transplanting paddy in Alaulapur village of Bangarmau tehsil area of Unnao died due to lightning.

Farmer stuck on island for 10 hours

Naraini (Banda). A farmer who went to get the plough and other items kept in the field got stuck due to sudden rise in the water level of Ranj river. After 10 hours, fire brigade personnel took him out of the island by boat.

Five people lost their lives due to lightning
Bhadohi/Jaunpur/Chandauli/Azamgarh: Five people died due to lightning during rain in Bhadohi, Chandauli, Azamgarh and Jaunpur of Purvanchal on Saturday. Eight people got burnt. Workers were transplanting paddy in the field of Rajkumar Yadav, resident of Samdha Deeh in Bhadohi district on Saturday. Lightning struck during the rain. Sughra Devi (45), Rita Devi (40), Kailash Yadav (17) and Antima Devi (15) got burnt in it.

Sughra Devi was declared dead in CHC. Sonam, a class eight student and Sandhya Saroj, a class 12 student got burnt due to lightning in Deharia in Thiadil. Sonam was declared dead in CHC. Dharmendra Yadav (28) died due to lightning in Jamalpur village of Machhlishahr area of Jaunpur district on Saturday at 3.30 pm.

Vandana (24), a resident of Revasa village, Tony (17) and Nirasha (40), residents of Salempur Pauni, were burnt when lightning struck them in Ghoswa village in Kandwa area of Chandauli district. Nirasha died during treatment. Kailash Devi (42) died when lightning struck them in Bargahan village in Azamgarh.
