Shimla: At least three people have lost their lives and one woman is reported missing after massive rains drenched Mandi district completely late Monday night, creating a flood-like situation there, reports Dynamite News correspondent.

While talking to media, Mandi Deputy Commissioner (DC) Apoorv Devgan said, "The stretch of jail road has been affected by heavy rain. 3 people have died in the area near Jail Road. One woman is missing. The search operation by the police, NDRF and Home Guard teams is underway. The roads are also being cleared. Many vehicles have been piled up near the hospital. Casualties have been reported, along with that, many houses have been damaged."

Vipasha Sadan becomes relief camp

Administrative teams tried to handle the situation in time. People living in unsafe houses have been sent to safer places. Many families have taken shelter in their relatives' houses, while temporary relief camps have been set up for others. A temporary relief camp has been set up at Vipasha Sadan in Mandi city for the affected families. Here food, medicines and accommodation facilities are being provided to the needy people. The administration has appealed to those whose houses are in danger to come to the relief camps and take temporary shelter.

Rain Still Continues

The rain has not stopped in the area yet, due to which there is a possibility of the situation worsening. The administration has advised the local people to remain alert and move to safer places. Schools and colleges have been closed and electricity and transport services have been disrupted in some areas.

Road Route Affected From Mandi to Manali

A large amount of debris has accumulated outside the gate of Mandi's Zonal Hospital, due to which the road leading to the hospital has been closed. Due to continuous rain and landslides in the city, many internal roads have been closed. Municipal Corporation Mayor Virendra Bhatt has confirmed the situation. The impact of rain is not limited to Mandi only.

Chandigarh-Manali National Highway (NH-3) has also been blocked at many places between Mandi and Kullu. Vehicles are stranded at many places and there is a long traffic jam.
