IMD predicts more thunderstorms and heavy rain in Delhi
New Delhi: Heavy rains in the last 24 hours have caused heavy devastation across the country. At least 11 people have died and many are injured in rain-related incidents in many states including Jammu and Kashmir, Tamil Nadu. Jharkhand has suffered the most damage, where five people have lost their lives. Apart from this, two deaths have occurred in Jammu and Kashmir and Rajasthan, while one woman died in Uttarakhand due to lightning in Tamil Nadu.
The Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for heavy rains in Palamu, Garhwa and Chatra districts of today. Many roads are closed due to landslides in Himachal Pradesh, including a national highway. There have been several incidents of cloudburst in the state so far during the monsoon. The IMD has also predicted heavy rain and thunderstorm in Delhi on Sunday. Many districts of Tamil Nadu have also received heavy rains and rescue operations are underway. People are being evacuated from the affected areas to safer places, in which SDRF, police, army and NDRF teams are helping.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has also warned of moderate to heavy rains with thunderstorms on Sunday. Due to heavy rains, debris obstructed the flow of the Yamuna river in Sayanachatti in Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand, which created a temporary lake, whose water level has now decreased by about 12 feet.

Five people have died and one person is missing due to rain in Jharkhand. A mother and son died and eight people were injured when a house collapsed in Saraikela-Kharsawan. A five-year-old child died and three people were injured due to wall collapse in Kharsawan. A husband died and his wife is missing after being swept away in the river in Chatra. An accident has also occurred due to rain in Pathalgarh block.
A nine-year-old girl fell into the Kosi river in Purnia district of Bihar, four members of the family who went to rescue her also drowned in the river. Due to continuous rain in West Bengal, a heavy rain alert has been issued in 11 districts. Due to low pressure moving towards Jharkhand, rain is also likely to increase in South Bengal. After Damodar Valley Corporation released water, the risk of flood has increased in many areas.
The water of Shali river has started flowing fast in Bakura district, submerging roads and halting movement. Two people have died and many injured in rain-related incidents in Reasi and Kathua districts of Jammu and Kashmir.
Torrential rains in Rajasthan have created flood-like situation in Kota, Bundi, Sawai Madhopur and Tonk. Two women have died in Bundi, one was swept away by the fast flowing flood waters and the other died due to wall collapse.
