New Delhi: The country's weather is once again witnessing a major change. Several states in South India are expected to experience heavy rain and thunderstorms over the next two days, while temperatures in North India will gradually rise. According to the latest forecast from the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the weather in the southern states will remain active between February 21 and 23.

Heavy Rain Warning in Tamil Nadu and Kerala

According to the IMD, heavy rain is likely in southern parts of Tamil Nadu and some areas of Kerala and Mahe. Strong winds of 30 to 40 kilometers per hour, accompanied by thunderstorms, are expected in these areas.

Conditions in coastal areas may be more challenging. Winds of 40 to 50 kilometers per hour, gusting up to 60 kilometers per hour, have been warned in the Gulf of Mannar, the Sri Lankan coast, and the South Andaman Sea. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea and to remain vigilant.

Temperatures to Rise in North India

While rain will continue in the south, temperatures are expected to rise in northwest India. According to the Meteorological Department, maximum temperatures may increase by 3 to 4 degrees Celsius over the next six days. Minimum temperatures are also expected to rise by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius. This could lead to dry and relatively warm weather.

Light Rain and Snowfall in Himalayan States

Light weather activity may continue in mountainous regions. Rain or snowfall is expected at some places in Himachal Pradesh on February 23rd. Rain and snowfall may occur in some areas of Uttarakhand between February 22nd and 24th. Cold conditions are likely to persist in high-altitude areas.

Advisory for Farmers

The IMD has advised farmers in Tamil Nadu and Kerala to exercise special caution. In areas where the paddy crop has ripened, they have been asked to harvest and store the crop in a safe place. Advice has been given to maintain proper drainage in the fields and to provide support to banana, vegetable, and horticultural crops in view of strong winds.

Overall, the next few days will be crucial for rain and strong winds in South India, while temperatures will begin to rise in North India.
