New Delhi: The weather is set to change again in the last days of January. According to the latest forecast from the Meteorological Department (IMD), a new Western Disturbance will become active on the night of January 30th, affecting northern and northwestern India, as well as the southern coastal areas. This system will bring heavy rain and snowfall in the hilly states, while rain, cold waves, and dense fog may increase in the plains.

Heavy Snowfall Alert in Mountainous Areas

According to the IMD, widespread rain and heavy snowfall is expected in Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, the high-altitude areas of Himachal Pradesh, as well as Gilgit-Baltistan and Muzaffarabad on February 1st. These areas are expected to experience thunderstorms and strong winds with speeds of up to 30 to 40 kilometers per hour. A lightning warning has also been issued, which could severely disrupt life and traffic in the mountainous areas.

Rain and Cold Wave in Plains

Light to moderate rain is expected in the northwest Indian plains, including Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi-NCR, on February 1st. The cold wave is expected to intensify the cold. Light rain and thunderstorms are expected in parts of Rajasthan on January 31st and February 1st.

Falling Minimum Temperatures Will Intensify Chill

The Meteorological Department predicts that minimum temperatures in northwest and central India may drop by two to four degrees Celsius over the next two days. Temperatures are expected to rise again after that. Gujarat may experience a rise and then a fall in the next few days, while other parts of the country are unlikely to experience any significant changes.

Dense Fog Impacts Traffic

Dense fog is expected in several states in northern and eastern India in the coming days. Visibility may be significantly reduced in many areas, including Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Uttarakhand. The Meteorological Department has warned that fog may disrupt road, rail, and air traffic. Drivers have been advised to be cautious.

Severe Wind Warning in South India

There are signs of deteriorating weather in South India and surrounding coastal areas. Strong winds of up to 60 kilometers per hour are possible in the Gulf of Mannar, the Comorin region, and the southern Tamil Nadu coast. Fishermen have been strongly advised not to venture into the sea due to high seas.
