New Delhi: The UK's aviation authority (CAA) has sought a detailed response from Air India regarding the fuel switch incident on a Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft. The aircraft flew from London to Bengaluru on Sunday. Upon arrival, the aircraft was grounded for safety checks.
In a letter to Air India, the CAA has asked how the aircraft was allowed to fly if a malfunction was suspected in the fuel control switch. The British regulator has warned that if a complete and satisfactory response is not received within a week, strict action could be taken against Air India and its Boeing 787 aircraft.

Air India stated that it had re-inspected the fuel switch and found no fault. The airline assured that it would provide complete information to the UK regulator. The company stated that the fuel switches on all 33 Boeing 787 aircraft had been inspected, and no problems were found.

According to the Indian civil aviation regulator, the fuel control switch failed to lock properly in the RUN position twice during engine start in London. The switch was corrected the third time, after which the pilot decided to fly to India. Subsequent inspections found the switch to be in good condition.
The plane was carrying approximately 200 passengers. After reaching Bengaluru, the pilot reported a possible fuel control switch malfunction during landing.
