Women Voters Shaping The Indian Democracy (Image Source: Internet)
Lucknow: A major change has been seen in Lucknow’s voter list after the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) carried out by the Election Commission. Nearly 9 lakh names have been removed from the electoral roll, bringing the total number of voters in the district down to 30,80,350. According to the final list released on April 10, the updated voter base now includes 16,13,094 male voters, 14,67,194 female voters and 107 third gender voters.
One of the most noticeable outcomes of the revision is the improvement in the gender ratio. Earlier, there were 883 female voters for every 1,000 male voters in Lucknow. After the revision, this figure has improved to 910, showing a steady rise in women’s participation in the electoral process. Officials say this is a positive sign of increasing awareness and inclusion among women voters.
The shift is not limited to the overall district, it is also visible across different assembly constituencies of Lucknow. In Lucknow East, the female voter ratio has reached 975 per 1,000 men, one of the highest in the district.
In Lucknow West, the ratio has improved from 880 to 923. In Lucknow Central, it has increased from 921 to 950. These numbers indicate a consistent rise in women’s registration and participation across both urban and mixed population areas.
Experts believe that social and legal reforms, along with government initiatives focused on women’s rights have played a role in this shift. Policies such as the Triple Talaq law and discussions around women’s political reservation are said to have encouraged greater confidence and awareness among women voters. As a result, more women are not only registering themselves but also actively participating in elections.
Political analysts suggest that this growing female voter base could become a key factor in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly Elections 2027. Women are increasingly being seen not just as a support group but as a decisive voting force. With their numbers rising and political awareness growing, they may play a major role in deciding election outcomes in the coming years.
