Chennai: Tamil Nadu’s political landscape appears to be heading towards a major realignment as actor-turned-politician Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) moves closer to forming the government in the state.
Reports indicate that the CPI, CPI(M) and VCK are likely to support TVK in its bid to form the next government. The development comes days after the Congress party announced support for Vijay-led TVK following the Assembly election results.
The backing from multiple opposition parties has significantly strengthened TVK’s position in the 234-member Assembly.
Tamil Nadu CM Suspense: Could Vijay Take the Chief Minister’s Chair?
TVK emerged as the single largest party in the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections with 108 seats. However, the party initially fell short of the majority mark of 118 seats required to form the government.
Congress, which secured five seats, had already extended support to Vijay’s party, taking the tally to 113. With reports of support from CPI, CPI(M) and VCK, TVK now appears comfortably placed to cross the majority threshold if the alliance is formally confirmed.
Political observers believe the rapid developments could pave the way for a new coalition government led by Vijay.
Supporters of TVK gathered outside the party headquarters in Chennai as speculation around government formation intensified. Party workers celebrated the latest political developments, calling it a historic moment in Tamil Nadu politics.
Vijay, popularly known among fans as “Thalapathy,” has emerged as a major political force in his debut Assembly election. His party’s performance has reshaped the state’s traditional political equations dominated for decades by the DMK and AIADMK.
Prove Numbers, Then Take Oath: Tamil Nadu Governor to TVK chief Vijay amid govt formation deadlock
Sources indicate that Vijay may soon meet the Tamil Nadu Governor once again to formally stake claim to form the government. This is expected to be his third interaction with the Governor since the election results were declared.
Earlier meetings reportedly focused on support numbers and coalition discussions. With more parties now backing TVK, the next round of talks could prove crucial in deciding the future government in Tamil Nadu.
Political attention is now firmly focused on Chennai as negotiations continue and the possibility of a Vijay-led government becomes increasingly realistic.
