“Thank you Rahul ji for your concern and constant support. We stand united and resolute in our fight to protect the soul of India, defend its democratic institutions and uphold the values enshrined in our Constitution,” Banerjee wrote.
The TMC leader said he had represented India abroad as part of an all-party delegation during Operation Sindoor and had stood united against terrorism. He alleged that those questioning the BJP were being politically targeted.
Earlier, Rahul Gandhi condemned the assault on Banerjee and termed it a “disgusting manifestation” of the BJP’s “politics of vendetta”.
The Congress leader said an attack on a Member of Parliament was an attack on democracy itself and urged both the Centre and the West Bengal government to ensure safety of public representatives irrespective of political affiliation. Rahul Gandhi also wished Banerjee a speedy recovery and extended support to his family.
Big Twist In Abhishek Banerjee Attack Case: Arrested accused linked to former TMC MLA Lovely Maitra
TMC chief Mamata Banerjee said several opposition leaders had contacted her following the incident. She revealed that Rahul Gandhi had personally called her and offered medical assistance for Abhishek Banerjee if needed.
The attack took place on Saturday when Banerjee visited Sonarpur to meet families allegedly affected by post-poll violence. According to police, stones, eggs and shoes were hurled at him by unidentified persons. Visuals from the scene showed the TMC MP being escorted away wearing a police helmet, with his shirt torn during the chaos.
The BJP rejected allegations of involvement and claimed public anger against the ruling TMC government was responsible for the hostile reception faced by Banerjee. The incident has further intensified the political confrontation between the BJP and the opposition INDIA bloc ahead of upcoming political battles.
