Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay’s scheduled interaction with supporters in London was cancelled after British police raised concerns over security and crowd management.
A large number of people had gathered near The Shard in London to see Vijay during his ongoing UK visit. The crowd reportedly grew significantly, prompting authorities to assess the situation from a public safety perspective.
The planned event could not go ahead after the Metropolitan Police raised concerns about maintaining safety around the venue.
Members of Vijay’s team informed the gathering that the programme had been cancelled because the required security clearance was not available. The announcement disappointed supporters who had assembled at the location to meet or see the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister.
Vijay is in the United Kingdom as part of a government delegation focused on attracting investments to Tamil Nadu and expanding business partnerships.
During the visit, the Tamil Nadu government has announced several investment-related agreements involving companies operating in areas such as manufacturing, engineering and technology. The state government has highlighted the potential for these projects to create thousands of employment opportunities.
The UK visit is primarily centred on strengthening Tamil Nadu’s investment ecosystem and attracting international companies to the state.
The government has been presenting Tamil Nadu as a destination for advanced manufacturing, technology and other high-value industries. The investment announcements have therefore remained a major part of Vijay’s overseas programme.
The cancellation of the London interaction was linked to security and crowd-management concerns and did not indicate any cancellation of the broader investment engagements scheduled during the visit.
