Hyderabad: Telangana is set to witness an intense political battle over the next week as campaigning gathers momentum for the municipal elections scheduled for February 11. The local body polls will cover seven municipal corporations and 116 municipalities across the State, making the contest a crucial political test for major parties.
The elections are being closely watched as they are seen as a prestige battle among the ruling Congress, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) led by former Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao.

While the contest is expected to be tight, the ruling Congress is believed to have a slight advantage going into the polls. Alongside traditional campaign strategies, parties are relying heavily on financial strength and caste-based mobilisations to consolidate support at the grassroots level.
The outcome of the municipal polls is expected to shape the political narrative ahead of future elections in the State.
Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy is set to formally launch the Congress campaign from this evening. In recent days, he has been holding a series of consultations and review meetings with in-charge ministers, the Pradesh Congress Committee leadership and the All India Congress Committee in-charge to assess poll preparedness and finalise campaign strategy.
Reddy returned to Hyderabad on Monday, February 2, after a two-week foreign visit.
On the other side, the BJP has declared the municipal polls as a prestige issue and has roped in several national leaders and Union ministers from Delhi to bolster its campaign.
The party’s newly appointed national president, Nitin Nabeen, arrived in Hyderabad on Wednesday afternoon and is scheduled to address party workers at a meeting in Mahboobnagar later in the evening, with a focus on energising cadres ahead of the municipal elections.

During his foreign tour, Chief Minister Reddy attended the four-day World Economic Forum in Davos, where he held meetings aimed at attracting foreign investment to Telangana, particularly in the IT and pharmaceutical sectors.
From Davos, he travelled to the United States to attend a week-long Executive Leadership programme at Harvard University’s Kennedy School. The programme focused on emerging trends in public policy, governance, artificial intelligence and semiconductor technologies. Reddy also interacted with professors, researchers and students during his stay.
As campaigning enters its final phase, all eyes will be on how the three major parties mobilise voters ahead of polling day.
