Police arrested a 36-year-old neighbour within hours of the crime, suspecting him of murder and robbery.

Investigators said the accused, Shivakumar, allegedly entered the house around 4 pm on the pretext of asking for water. Police believe he had noticed the gold jewellery Shobha was wearing and targeted her with the intention of stealing it.
When the couple was alone inside the house, the suspect reportedly attacked her with a knife and then strangled her. He fled the scene with more than 100 grams of gold ornaments.
Her husband, unable to move due to his medical condition, was present during the incident but could not intervene.
Officers from Nelamangala Town Police quickly registered a case and began examining CCTV footage from nearby streets. Footage and local inputs helped track the suspect’s movements, leading to his arrest within six hours of the crime.
During questioning, Shivakumar allegedly confessed that he was facing severe financial debt and had planned the robbery to repay loans. Police said the stolen jewellery has been recovered.
