New Delhi: The Election Commission of India is conducting a series of review meetings in Kerala to assess preparations for the upcoming assembly elections. A delegation led by Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar held discussions with state officials and stakeholders in Thiruvananthapuram on Friday.

The meetings are aimed at evaluating whether the state machinery is fully prepared to conduct the elections smoothly. Officials reviewed logistical arrangements, voter readiness and coordination among election authorities.

Meetings With Officials and Stakeholders

The Commission’s visit includes interactions with a wide range of stakeholders. Discussions are being held with registered political parties, district election officers, senior police officials and nodal officers responsible for conducting the polls.

The review exercise is expected to continue on Saturday as well. During the meetings, officials are assessing security arrangements, polling station management and the readiness of election staff.

The Commission has also been interacting with voters and civil society representatives to understand their concerns and ensure a transparent electoral process.

Poll Schedule Likely Next Week

Sources familiar with the discussions said the election schedule for assemblies in KeralaWest BengalTamil Nadu and Assam, along with the Union Territory of Puducherry, is likely to be announced next week.

Before visiting Kerala, the Commission had already conducted similar review meetings in Tamil Nadu, Assam and Puducherry. The poll panel will also visit West Bengal on March 9 and 10 to examine the state’s preparedness.

Officials said the special intensive revision of electoral rolls has already been completed in these states, and the final voter lists have been published.

Assembly Terms Near Completion

The terms of several assemblies are scheduled to end in the coming months. The tenure of the West Bengal Assembly ends on May 7, followed by Tamil Nadu on May 10, Assam on May 20 and Kerala on May 23. The term of the Puducherry Assembly concludes on June 15.

With the review process nearing completion, the Election Commission is expected to soon announce the poll dates, setting the stage for a major round of elections across these states and the union territory.
