Lahore: Pakistan's national selection committee has announced its squad for the two-match Test series against South Africa starting next month. The selection committee has selected an 18-member team. Pakistan will play its first series under the ICC World Test Championship 2025-27 on October 12. The 18-member squad has been selected, but some players will be dropped before the first Test, according to the Pakistan Cricket Board.
Shan Masood will continue to captain the Test team. Three new players have been added to the squad: Asif Afridi, Faisal Akram, and Rohail Nazir. Fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi, batsman Babar Azam, and wicketkeeper Mohammad Rizwan have returned to the squad, while Naseem Shah has been dropped from the Test squad. However, further changes to the squad are expected later.

South Africa, the ICC World Test Championship 2023-25 champions, will play the first Test against Pakistan at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore from October 12-16, while the second Test will be played at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium in Rawalpindi from October 20-24.
This will be followed by a three-match T20I and ODI series. For the pre-series camp, players will train from today until Wednesday, October 8, under the guidance of red-ball team head coach Azhar Mahmood and NCA coaches. Players who played in the recently concluded T20 Asia Cup will join the team on October 4.
