Pakistan returns to Indian soil for Hockey
New Delhi: Relations between India and Pakistan have been very tense in recent times. Recently, after the death of 26 people in the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, India took strict military action under 'Operation Sindoor'. The effect of this development was also seen on the sports world. Pakistan did not participate in the Hockey Asia Cup 2025 citing security reasons. But now an important update has come out, which is considered to be big news regarding sports relations between the two countries.
Hockey India Secretary General Bholanath Singh has confirmed that the Pakistan team is coming to participate in the FIH Junior Hockey World Cup 2025 to be held in India later this year. This tournament is a great platform for Under-21 players to showcase their talent at the international level and young teams from all over the world will participate in it.
This prestigious tournament will be organized in Chennai and Madurai cities of India from 28 November to 10 December 2025. A total of 24 teams will participate this time. India has been placed in Pool B, which also includes Pakistan, Chile, and Switzerland.
There has always been a tough competition between India and Pakistan in hockey. In such a situation, the competition between the two teams in this tournament is likely to be exciting. Last time in 2023, Germany defeated France to win the title and now it will go to defend the title in the tournament.
Hockey Asia Cup 2025 is currently being played in Rajgir (Bihar), but Pakistan had already withdrawn itself from this competition. Pakistan Hockey Federation had informed FIH and Asian Hockey Federation that due to security reasons they cannot send a team to India. Due to this the Pakistani team did not become a part of Asia Cup.
But now the situation seems to be changing and Pakistan has decided to send its team to India for the FIH Junior Hockey World Cup, which is being considered a positive sign in terms of sports relations between the two countries.
