Maharajganj: The unique initiative of a group of women of the district has become talk of the town.

Women of Nagwa Gram Sabha in Dhani block have opened new doors for their prosperity. They make colourful mats from the weeds (locally known as 'gon') found in the village pond.

First they collect gon from the pond, get it dried and then color it with attractive hues. With this coloured gon they produce amazing mats costing from Rs.150 to Rs.250.

One of the women, Sorati Devi, who has been making 'gon ki chatai' for a long time, told the Dynamite News that first gon is collected from the pond, then dried and then it is colored attractively.

"Now the gon is ready for making mats. At least two women are required to prepare a mat," she added.

Sorati further said that in a month about 20 mats are sold and we earn good profit.
