New Delhi: The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has made an important change for mobile users, which has now made it easier than ever to change from prepaid to postpaid or postpaid to prepaid on networks like Jio, Airtel, BSNL, and VI.
Earlier, where one had to wait for 90 days for this process, now it will be completed in just 30 days, and that too only through OTP-based KYC, reports Dynamite News correspondent.
The Department of Telecommunications has shared this information on its official X (earlier Twitter) handle: now users will be able to change their existing mobile plan within only 30 days. For this, they will have to visit the store of the concerned telecom company and complete KYC through OTP.
New Rule
According to the earlier applicable rule (21 September 2021), there was a cooling period of 90 days to change the connection. Now this period has been reduced to 30 days, which will provide relief to those users who want to change their plan due to network failure or service.
30 days wait for the first time
This rule will apply only to those who change from prepaid to postpaid or postpaid to prepaid for the first time. That is, to make the change for the first time, one will have to wait only for 30 days.
Rules on repeated changes
If a user wants to change the plan again, then he will be allowed to change through an OTP-based process only after at least 90 days of the last change. Telecom companies have been instructed to ensure that they inform the users about this rule before every change.
How will the change happen quickly?
If a user wants to make changes before the stipulated period of 30 or 90 days, then he can make this change from the authorized store or sales center by completing the KYC process. This new rule of DoT has been implemented keeping in mind the convenience of the customers, due to which now changing the mobile plan has become easier and faster than before.
