New Delhi: The Indian Navy commissioned INS Mahe on Monday. This is the first ship of the Mahe class, designed to be a threat to the enemy. It will specifically locate and destroy enemy submarines. It is small in appearance but so fast that no submarine in coastal areas can escape its sight.

When INS Mahe was commissioned into the Navy, General Upendra Dwivedi was present as the chief guest. He said on this occasion that it is not just a ship but a new strength of self-reliant India. Cochin Shipyard Limited has built it in India. Mahe is the first of a total of eight such ships being built.

INS Mahe is completely indigenous

General Dwivedi stated that the induction of INS Mahe into the Navy not only adds a new strength to the country's maritime warfare capabilities but also reinforces India's maritime capability to design, build, and deploy complex combat ships using indigenous technology.

What are the ship's strengths?

This ship combines firepower, stealth, and mobility and is designed to hunt submarines, conduct coastal patrols, and secure India's vital sea lanes.

The Navy stated that the ship is equipped with advanced weapons, sensors, and communication systems, enabling it to accurately detect, track, and neutralize subsurface threats. The ship can operate for extended periods in shallow waters and features technologically advanced machinery and control systems.

It is only 77 meters long and weighs 900 tons. Its speed is 25 knots, or approximately 46 km/h. Apart from this, it moves so quietly that the enemy does not even get a hint that a ship is coming.
