Sanchar Saathi, launched by India’s Department of Telecommunications, is a powerful platform to fight mobile and telecom fraud. Through its CEIR and TAFCOP modules, users can block stolen phones, check SIMs issued in their name, report fake numbers, and file fraud complaints directly with DoT.
Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia clarified the growing controversy surrounding the Sanchar Saathi app. He stated that the app is solely for citizen safety and fraud prevention, and that users can delete it at will.
The government has directed mobile companies to pre-install the Sanchar Saathi app on all future phones, sparking privacy concerns and political backlash. Opposition leaders, including Priyanka Gandhi and Priyanka Chaturvedi, called the app a “spy tool” that can track citizens’ activities.
