Fatehpur: Senior Congress leader and Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi on Friday visited the family of Hariom Valmiki in Fatehpur, Uttar Pradesh, days after the tragic murder of Valmiki on October 2. The meeting drew widespread attention, with Rahul emphasizing, “Meeting the family or not, justice must be delivered.”
The meeting gained significant attention following the murder of Hariom Valmiki on October 2. Rahul Gandhi stated, “Whether I meet the family or not, justice must be served.”

According to Dynamite News, after the meeting, Rahul Gandhi said that the family informed him about being threatened by government officials and being pressured to record a video. He alleged that the family was being treated cruelly and intimidated.
Initially, the family of Hariom Valmiki had refused to meet Rahul Gandhi, stating they did not wish to meet leaders of any political party and were satisfied with the government’s response. Following this, the administration granted permission for the meeting, though the police initially stopped Rahul Gandhi’s convoy.
After the meeting, Rahul Gandhi said, “The family told me that they are not criminals; a crime has been committed against them. Their son or brother was murdered, and they are only demanding justice.” He added that the family is being intimidated and is unable to step out of their house.
Initially, the Valmiki family had refused to meet Rahul.
Before Rahul Gandhi’s visit, Hariom’s younger brother, Shivam Valmiki, had told the media that they were not willing to meet him or any other political leader.
Shivam said, “My brother was murdered in Raebareli, and the government has provided us financial assistance and government jobs. We are completely satisfied with the government.” However, later, the family revealed that they were pressured to make such statements.
Earlier, the Fatehpur district administration had announced financial aid to Hariom Valmiki’s family from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. Additionally, the deceased’s brother and sister were provided government jobs. His sister, Kusum Devi, was appointed as an outsourced staff nurse at a medical college.

The state government had reportedly taken swift action following the murder of Hariom Valmiki. However, Rahul Gandhi accused the government of attempting to suppress the incident and pressuring the family.
He demanded, “I urge the Chief Minister to ensure justice for the family, respect their dignity, and take strict action against the perpetrators."
