Lucknow: The Nation is paying tributes to Samajwadi Party Patriarch, former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh and Ex-Union Defence Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav on his Birth Anniversary today. This day is celebrated as 'Sons Of The Soil Day'. He was born on 22 November 1939 in Saifai.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and other leaders paid tributes to Mulayam Singh Yadav on his Birth Anniversary on Saturday.

On the social media X Yogi Adityanath wrote:

"Humble tributes to former Defence Minister, former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, 'Padma Vibhushan' Mulayam Singh Yadav on his birth anniversary!"

Deputy Chief Ministers Keshav Prasad Maurya and Brajesh Pathak also paid homage to the former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister.

Keshav Prasad Maurya wrote on X:
"Many salutations to the founder of Samajwadi Party and former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Mulayam Singh Yadav ji, on his birth anniversary!"

Mulayam Singh Yadav: A Brief Profile
Rising from rural soil to become a prominent figure in national politics, Mulayam Singh Yadav's life story is a unique example of struggle, simplicity, and public service.

Rising from a poor farming family, he rose to great political stature.

Mulayam Singh Yadav was born on 22 November 1939 into a poor farming family in Saifai village, Etawah district, Uttar Pradesh. Belonging to the OBC community, Mulayam's childhood was spent in poverty. His family was so humble that he had to borrow a bicycle to travel outside the village.

Entry Into Politics

UP Chief Minister At 51
Mulayam Singh Yadav's political career expanded rapidly. In 1989, he became the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh for the first time. At the age of 51, he took charge of the state and made many major decisions for farmers, backward classes, and the poor. His political acumen and grassroots influence made him a central figure in Uttar Pradesh politics.

Placing Saifai on the Indian Map
Mulayam Singh Yadav never forgot where he came from. He brought recognition to the small village of Saifai, not just in Uttar Pradesh but on the map of the entire country.

Mulayam Singh was one of those political leaders who never forgot his people, even after reaching high positions. Whether it was Amar Singh, Azam Khan, or his brother Shivpal Singh Yadav, he helped them all move forward. He valued relationships in politics, even if it meant losing his own life.

Handed Power to His Son Akhilesh Yadav In 2012
The Samajwadi Party won a landslide victory in the 2012 assembly elections. The party won 226 out of 403 seats, and Mulayam could have become Chief Minister for the fourth time. However, he handed over power to his son, Akhilesh Yadav. This decision reflects his visionary leadership and family unity.

Major And Bold Decisions As Defence Minister
As Defence Minister, Mulayam Singh Yadav proved to be a very decisive leader. His decisions regarding Sukhoi and Bofors brought him into the spotlight. He himself stated in an interview that after seeing the excellent capabilities of the Bofors gun, he had the file containing allegations against Rajiv Gandhi disappear.

A Deep Connection With The People
Mulayam Singh was a leader of the people. His cousin Ramgopal Yadav said upon his death that there was no village or tehsil where Mulayam Singh did not visit. He always met people, talked to them, and listened to their problems. This connection to the ground was the biggest reason for earning him the title of "son of the soil."

From 'Akhara' To 'Raajneeti'
Mulayam Singh Yadav learnt some valuable lessons from his wrestling arena. He would always wait for the right moment to throw his opponent off his feet.

Mulayam Singh Yadav entry into politics was quite by chance. It was 1962 when the campaigning for the UP Assembly Elections underway. Mulayam Singh was in a wrestling match at Nagla village in Etawah when Nathu Singh, the Samyukta Socialist Party candidate from Jaswantnagar, turned up to watch the match. Young Mulayam managed to bring down the local pehelwan within minutes with his ‘charkha daav’.

Nathu Singh was impressed and praised the young wrestler. Inspired by this praise Mulayam Singh went out campaigning for Nathu Singh.

The same year in 1962 Mulayam Singh won Etawah’s KK Mahavidyalaya Student Union polls by a record margin. In 1963 he did his BTC (Basic Training Certificate) and was appointed a teacher at Jain Inter College at Karhal.

At the same time Mulayam Singh association with the Samyukta Socialist Party got stronger. In 1967, Nathu Singh proposed his name as the Samyukta candidate from Jaswantnagar Assembly seat and Mulayam won and never looked back after this victory. He was elected to the UP assembly 10 times and was sworn in as UP CM thrice.
