Codeine cough syrup racket busted in Azamgarh
Azamgarh: New revelations are continuously emerging in the case of the illegal purchase and sale of codeine-based cough syrup in Azamgarh district of Uttar Pradesh. After obtaining a license for the wholesale sale of this syrup, Bipendra Singh, a resident of Jethari, began exclusively trading in codeine-based cough syrup.
This revelation has prompted police and STF teams to become active, and a search is underway for Bipendra and his associates.
Illegal Business In Rented House
Bipendra Singh had rented a house in Bangaon Martinganj in Azamgarh district under the name of his firm, "AS Pharma." Here, he exclusively dealt in codeine-based cough syrup. Furthermore, Vipendra did not purchase any other products or medicines for his firm.
After receiving information about Vipendra's illegal activities, police and STF teams are actively searching for him.
Illegal Purchase And Sale
According to the information gathered by the police against Bipendra Singh, he had purchased 328,000 bottles of codeine-based cough syrup from two firms in Azamgarh, three in Basti, and one in Jaunpur. When the Drug Department inspected his firm on November 28, it was found closed. The landlord stated that Bipendra's firm had been closed for the past year.
Police And STF Action Intensified
The process of arresting Bipendra has been expedited, and police, STF, and Drug Department officials are now searching for him. The police searched Vipendra's house, but he had already absconded. Meanwhile, Vikas Singh, a resident of Narve, who is also accused of involvement in this case, has gone into hiding.
The police have also initiated action against him. STF and police teams are conducting searches in Azamgarh, as well as in Prayagraj, Mau, Jaunpur, and Bhadohi districts, where the codeine-based cough syrup was supplied. Case of Fake Firms in Ghazipur and Bhadohi
In addition, codeine-based cough syrup was also purchased from establishments in Raidopur, Ghazipur, by two fake firms located in Ghazipur and Bhadohi. No information is available about the operators of these firms. Drug department officials have attempted to gather information about these fake firms, but so far no concrete leads have been found.
