CNG prices hike again in Delhi-NCR
New Delhi: Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) prices in Delhi-NCR have risen again, with fuel companies increasing rates by Re 1 per kg on Sunday. This marks the second hike in just two days, reflecting ongoing pressure from rising international fuel costs amid the escalating conflict in the Middle East and the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.
The revised CNG rates are as follows:
Earlier, on May 15, CNG prices were increased by Rs 2 per kg. State-owned oil firms—Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL), and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (HPCL)—had kept fuel prices frozen for 11 weeks despite rising input costs.
However, continued pressure on finances forced them to pass on part of the cost to consumers.
Fuel prices in India had been largely insulated from international fluctuations since April 2022, following the daily price revision freeze triggered by soaring crude prices after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
The recent conflict in West Asia has once again pushed global oil prices higher, with India’s crude basket averaging USD 69 per barrel in February, rising to USD 113-114 per barrel in the months following the escalation.
