Iran Warns US After Oil Tanker Strikes
New Delhi: Iran’s Revolutionary Guard navy has issued a sharp warning to the United States, saying any further attack on Iranian oil tankers or commercial vessels would trigger a “heavy assault” on American military bases and enemy ships in the region. The warning came after the US military struck two Iranian oil tankers that it claimed were attempting to breach a blockade near Iranian ports.
The latest confrontation has intensified fears over the fragile ceasefire that has been in place since the recent conflict between Iran, the US and Israel. Although Washington insists the truce still holds, fresh military activity in the Strait of Hormuz has raised concerns about another escalation.
According to the US military, its forces intercepted and disabled two Iranian tankers on Friday after they allegedly attempted to cross the American naval blockade. The Pentagon also stated that US warships had earlier prevented attacks on three Navy vessels and carried out strikes on Iranian military targets near the strategic waterway.
The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s most important oil shipping routes. Continued disruptions have already pushed global fuel prices higher and created uncertainty in international markets.
Bahrain announced the arrest of 41 individuals accused of having links with Iran’s Revolutionary Guard. Authorities alleged the group collected funds intended to support Iranian operations. The development further deepened tensions between Tehran and Gulf nations hosting US military forces.
Iran also issued a warning to Bahrain, cautioning that support for US-backed actions could lead to “severe consequences.” Iranian officials stressed the importance of the Strait of Hormuz, hinting that prolonged instability could affect the region’s economy and shipping routes.
Britain confirmed that the warship HMS Dragon would move to the Middle East as part of preparations for a possible multinational maritime security mission. France has also repositioned its aircraft carrier strike group closer to the Red Sea.
Both countries are discussing a coalition aimed at restoring safe navigation through the Strait of Hormuz once a lasting ceasefire is achieved.
Despite the growing military tension, diplomatic talks remain active. Pakistan said it has maintained contact with both Washington and Tehran to help preserve the ceasefire. Russia, Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Qatar have also pushed for renewed negotiations and a long-term agreement to avoid another regional war.
