Gurugram: At least 56 people have been arrested following a violent clash during a workers’ strike at IMT Manesar in Gurugram, police said on Friday.

The protest escalated after striking workers allegedly vandalised property, set a police motorcycle on fire, and pelted stones, causing significant damage.

Police Action and Arrests

According to officials, all arrested individuals were produced before a court and subsequently sent to judicial custody. Several others have been detained and are being questioned.

Police said a case was registered at IMT Manesar police station against unidentified individuals, and further arrests are likely as investigations continue.

Section 163 Imposed Ahead of Clash

Authorities had imposed Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita in the area a day before the incident. The clash reportedly broke out when police asked protesting workers to disperse.

Officials said tensions escalated quickly, leading to a confrontation between workers and law enforcement personnel.

CCTV Footage Aids Investigation

Police teams are examining CCTV footage and viral videos to identify those involved in the violence. Gurugram Police said efforts are underway to trace all accused and establish accountability.

Administration Engages with Industry

Following the incident, Manesar DCP Prabina Premachandran held a meeting with company owners, representatives, and contractors to address concerns related to the ongoing strike.

During the meeting, officials directed employers to ensure timely payment of wages as per government norms and maintain transparency by displaying salary details publicly.

Call for Fair Treatment of Workers

The DCP also stressed that workers must not face harassment or ill-treatment. Employers were advised to follow labour regulations strictly and maintain a safe working environment.

Police officials said adequate security personnel have been deployed across IMT Manesar to maintain law and order. Authorities confirmed that the situation is now peaceful and under control.
