The issue came to light when concerns were raised about the spread of obscene and sexually explicit content on the platform. Allegations were made that this content was generated or amplified using X's artificial intelligence tool, Grok. The government took a strong stance, particularly regarding the creation of sexually explicit and sexually explicit images of women.

Rajya Sabha MP Priyanka Chaturvedi also criticized X regarding this matter. She stated that instead of completely banning Grok AI from creating objectionable and sexually explicit images, it has been limited to paid users only, which is not a sufficient step.
