Delhi Court sends MCD deputy commissioner to 14-day judicial custody
New Delhi: A major corruption case has shaken the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), raising serious questions about the administrative system. Deputy Commissioner of Shahdara North Zone, Colonel Abhishek Kumar Mishra, along with Administrative Officer Divyanshu Kumar Gautam, has been arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on charges of bribery. Following a court hearing at Rouse Avenue Court, both officials have been remanded to 14 days of judicial custody and sent to Tihar Jail.
The CBI arrested the duo on Monday after they allegedly demanded a bribe of approximately ₹4 lakh. Acting on a complaint, the agency laid a trap and caught the officials red-handed. During their one-day CBI custody, both were interrogated extensively, yielding critical information that strengthened the case.

On Tuesday, they were produced before Rouse Avenue Court, where the CBI confirmed that sufficient evidence had been collected. The court subsequently ordered 14 days of judicial custody, marking the next step in ongoing legal proceedings.
Allegations of Widespread Corruption
A report submitted by former Mayor Shyam Sundar Agarwal has added further gravity to the case. According to the report, officials exhibited gross negligence in handling illegal construction cases. Shops sealed for violations were reopened through collusion, and many official orders went unenforced. The former Mayor alleged that corruption is systemic, with officials at multiple levels working with contractors and builders in exchange for bribes.
These revelations have cast serious doubt on the functioning of the MCD and eroded public trust. Confidential intelligence received by the CBI facilitated the trap operation, and further investigations are expected to uncover additional details.
This case serves as a stark warning to the MCD and the broader government machinery, highlighting the urgent need for accountability and transparency.
