Firozabad: A wanted gangster, listed among the district’s top-10 active criminals was arrested by Firozabad police late Sunday night following an encounter near Surajpur Dugmai canal.
The accused was on the run in several serious cases including charges under the Gangster Act, suffered a bullet injury to his leg during the exchange of fire and was immediately taken to the Community Health Centre (CHC) for treatment.

According to Superintendent of Police (Rural) Anuj Chaudhary, the arrested criminal has been identified as a resident of Gihar Colony, Sirsaganj.
He was involved in over 20 criminal cases registered across multiple police stations, including attempted murder, robbery, loot, extortion, and theft. Police had been actively searching for him under the Gangster Act.

The incident took place around 11 pm on Sunday when the police team, led by Sirsaganj Station House Officer (SHO) Vaibhav Singh, was conducting routine checking near Surajpur Dugmai canal. During the operation, officers noticed a motorcycle approaching from the direction of Nagla Khangar. When signaled to stop, the rider attempted to flee, lost control, and fell with the bike.
As the police moved forward to intercept him, the accused opened fire on the team. In retaliation, police fired back, hitting him in the leg. He collapsed on the spot, after which he was overpowered and taken into custody. A country-made pistol, live cartridges, and a stolen motorcycle were recovered from his possession.
SP (Rural) Anuj Chaudhary confirmed that the criminal’s name figured prominently on the district’s list of top-10 active offenders. “He has been terrorizing the area for a long time with his involvement in heinous crimes. His arrest is a major success for the police force,” the officer said.

Following his treatment at CHC, the accused will be produced before the court and further legal action will be taken. Police have also intensified efforts to identify his associates and dismantle his network.
Over the past few months, the Firozabad police have intensified checking drives, particularly at night, to curb rising cases of organized crime, vehicle thefts, and gang activities.
