On September 8th, two major agreements were signed in Islamabad between the American company United States Strategic Metals (USSM) and the Pakistani government. These agreements cover the export of antimony, copper, gold, tungsten, and rare earth elements, and the establishment of a mining facility in Pakistan.
The Sharif government stated that the first phase of the agreement will involve a US investment of approximately $500 million. Although it does not include binding mining licenses, this move is seen as a major signal towards foreign companies' claims to Pakistan's resources.
